RACHAEL THOMPSON PHILLIPS
A One-Day Workshop for Massage Therapists
Learn how to recognise how emotions influence pain, identify the recurring patterns they create in the body, and know how to confidently speak about those patterns through safe, ethical conversations that help you understand the whole person, not just their physical symptoms.
I think this is the question many massage therapists are quietly asking themselves...
I know emotional experiences influence pain... but I don't know how to work with that professionally.
Not in a "woo woo" way.
In a practical way.
An ethical way.
A way that feels natural, professional and stays within my scope of practice.
Here's something important to remember:
You're not missing compassion.
You're not missing experience.
You're not missing knowledge.
What you're probably missing is a professional framework that helps you connect everything you already know.
That, to me, is the gap this workshop was designed to fill.

But when you understand that pain is only part of the story. Understanding the person changes the way we practise as therapists.
✔ You already believe emotional experience influences pain but don't know how to work with that professionally.
✔ You've ever sensed there was more happening beneath a client's pain but weren't sure how to explore it.
✔ You want practical skills, not vague theories.
✔ You want to ask better questions without making assumptions or feeling awkward.
✔ You want to communicate about emotional influences safely and ethically.
✔ You want to remain firmly within your scope of practice.
✔ You enjoy learning and want to continually grow as a therapist.
✔ You believe understanding the person is just as important as understanding the pain.
✘ You're looking for a counselling qualification or psychotherapy training.
✘ You're hoping to diagnose emotional trauma or tell clients what their pain means.
✘ You believe every client should explore emotions during treatment.
✘ You're looking for quick fixes or one-size-fits-all answers.
✘ You're unwilling to reflect on your current way of practising.
✘ You're looking for techniques rather than a new way of thinking.

Why I Created The Body Never Lies
For more than thirty years, I've had the privilege of working with thousands of clients.
Like most massage therapists, my career began by learning anatomy, assessment, movement and hands-on techniques. Those skills became the foundation of my practice and continue to be an essential part of the way I work today.
But over the years, I began noticing something I couldn't ignore.
Clients with the same pain rarely had the same story.
A shoulder wasn't always just a shoulder.
A tight jaw wasn't always just muscle tension.
Two people could present with almost identical symptoms, yet the experiences that had shaped those symptoms were completely different.
The more I observed, the more I realised the body was communicating far more than I'd ever been taught to recognise.
I knew emotional experiences could influence pain.
What I didn't know was how to understand those patterns in a way that was practical, professional and ethical.
So I began asking questions.
For decades, I observed.
I listened.
I studied.
I reflected.
And slowly, recurring patterns began to emerge.
Those observations eventually became what is now the Decoding the Body Method - a structured framework that helps massage therapists recognise how emotional experiences may influence pain, understand the recurring patterns they may create in the body, and know how to explore those observations through safe, ethical conversations that always honour the individuality of the client.
Because here's what I believe.
Massage therapists don't need more techniques.
They need a deeper understanding of the people lying on their table.
They need a way to bridge the gap between knowing emotions may influence pain and knowing how to work with that understanding professionally, confidently and within scope.
That's why I created The Body Never Lies.
This workshop isn't about replacing everything you've already known.
It's about expanding the way you see.
My hope is that you'll leave not only with practical skills you can immediately begin integrating into your treatments, but with a completely different way of understanding your clients.
Because when we understand the person behind the pain, we don't just change our treatments.
We change the experience our clients have of being truly seen, heard and understood.
And I believe that's where exceptional therapy begins.
Much Love
